I’m the object of wrath, but not an innocent victim

I’m the bully,

prone to hit him

spit on him

run over him

with my thoughts and my words and my actions

I heap grit on him –

and by grit I mean the dictionary definition:

[ small, loose particles of dirt or sand ]

which might not seem like that big of deal…

but thousands of times a day

I hit him, spit on him, run over him

with my thoughts and my words and my actions.

The average woman speaks 20,000 words a day.

The average person has 70,000 thoughts a day.

“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” -Proverbs 4:23

Which is a problem because:

“The heart is deceitful above all else.” -Jeremiah 17:9

So on my own, I speak 20,000 words and have 70,000 thoughts…

( and that’s just if I was average… I’m pretty sure I’m much louder and more talkative than the average person…)

Words and thoughts that are for the purpose of looking out for number 1:

me.

I am not an innocent victim, I am rightfully an object of God’s wrath:

“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…” -Romans 3:23

I can try to justify it, but then I consider the facts:

“God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth.” -Isaiah 40:28

“God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there is anyone who understands, who seeks after God. Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.…” -Psalm 53:2

I can try to compare myself to others… C’mon, I can’t be that bad, until the standard is

God

the Creator of Heaven

and Earth.

Despite my position as

sinful

unworthy

an object deserving of wrath-

I’m turnt.

I’m turnt because:

While I was trapped in my position,

Jesus Christ stepped into time and space and endured wrath on my behalf.

I’m turnt because I’m redeemed by a God who I can’t comprehend,

who is love and justice and mercy and

completely holy.

God doesn’t want to just know me, though,

He sent Jesus for you too.

“Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.

Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It’s not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you’re already in—insiders—not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin. If it’s an initiation ritual you’re after, you’ve already been through it by submitting to baptism. Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” -Colossians 2:10-15, The Message
