My Journey to Health & Wellness

The past three years have been a journey of learning how to take care of myself. It’s not something I would have chosen to address, but something I was forced into… and I’m so glad! After my second child was born last year, I had a slew of health issues. The most prevalent were constant nausea, dizziness, brain fog, stomach pains, UTIs, anxiety and depression. After a ton of tests – blood work, urine tests, stool samples, scans… so many things… the only doctors really could come up with was maybe acid reflux. After nine months, I was feeling so depressed and discouraged.

Around this time, I went to a new chiropractor who suggested a test to see if it could be Candida Albicans – which I learned is yeast overgrowth in the GI tract. The test came back positive…And so I began feasting on information about the importance of gut health.

Now, it is six months later and I am feeling better than I have in three years. Here’s what’s helped me:

***I share this hoping that if you’re struggling with similar issues, that this might give you encouragement and some new ideas of things to try. No matter what, don’t give up!

  1. What we eat (and choose not to eat!) matters: The first thing the chiropractor suggested was changing my diet. No sugar, gluten, or dairy for six weeks. Within a week, the brain fog and nausea had subsided! Now, I still don’t eat gluten and dairy and really watch the amount of sugar I eat. Here’s why: “Processed foods, sugar, gluten, and alcohol can interfere with a healthy microbial balance and can compromise intestinal health. Eliminating, or at least limiting, these foods and beverages helps to promote a healthy microbiome.” –
  2. Supplements: I have started taking some awesome supplements that have helped me tremendously to have a healthy start to my day and keep me regular. No more bloating or intestinal discomfort! It’s amazing how good it feels! Let me know if you’d like more info on what I take. I’d love to share them with you.
  3. Your health is worth it! Joyce Meyer said, “A healthy you is the greatest gift you can give your family.” I totally agree. It’s always been hard for me to spend money on myself, but if I want to be healthy – mind, body, and spirit, I need to invest in myself. God created us to have a physical body and a spiritual soul. We need to feed both but they are connected. For me, when I was feeling terrible it was hard to pray. I didn’t have energy to go to Bible Study. I want to be able to enjoy life, love my family, and serve others. I can’t do that if I’m not healthy, so I’m going to do what I can and trust God to help me. One day at a time.
